At Naked Kitchens we do showrooms a little differently. Rather than show you a range of ‘our’ kitchen designs that you can choose from, we like to inspire you with lots of ideas so you can create the perfect, bespoke kitchen that’s unique to you.
Our newest showroom is on the Fulham Road in Chelsea – right in the heart of London’s home and interiors centre – and we reckon we’ve packed in more kitchen design inspiration per square foot than you’ll find anywhere in the known universe.
Eye-popping colours, unusual textures, sensational forms… It's actually more like an art gallery than a conventional showroom. And there’s a good reason for that….
As our head of design Jayne Everett explained when asked about the latest hot kitchen trends, more and more people are thinking of a kitchen design in the way an artist thinks about a painting:
“Until quite recently people wanted their kitchens to sort of fade away at the edges without a sharp distinction from the surrounding decor. But now we’re finding people are thinking about their kitchens almost like a single, bold work of art. They’re looking at colours, textures and details like handles and how they all work together in this distinctive, layered space where you can express yourself and create something unique and striking.”
So if that rings a bell with you, make sure you book a visit to Naked Kitchens Chelsea. You can find inspiration for all the elements that make your own kitchen masterpiece…
1) Great materials
Any work of art starts with choosing the materials. We’re a little bit obsessive about selecting and using materials for all of our kitchens: beautiful, durable timbers; great quality worktops; solid brass details… Really hard-wearing, bomb-proof substances that will last forever but are still versatile enough to work with and beautiful to look at.
At the Chelsea showroom you can get a feel for some of our current favourite materials, including worktops that flow into splashbacks to stunning effect, and natural walnut, which we lacquer rather than stain so you can see the grain and all its stunning natural variations.
2) Layers of texture
The kitchen is a hands-on space, and touch is more important here than in any other room in the house – so texture plays a huge role in any great kitchen design. Like creating a collage, our designers can help you build up layers of texture, mixing smooth and rough, natural and man-made surfaces for a balanced space that gives you a little burst of visual and tactile pleasure every day.
And nothing beats literally getting hands-on yourself –- come along to our Chelsea showroom and run your fingers along some seriously satisfying surfaces – such our reeded and fluted textured timber doors and panels, as pleasing as stroking an old-fashioned washboard…
3) Artful colour combinations
What is a work of art without a great colour palette? At the showroom you can feast your eyes on some of our striking and unusual colour combinations – as well as softer, more subtle tones.
Whether it’s a paint from our own Naked Kitchens palette inspired by the Norfolk countryside and coast, or cleverly using exposed timber in a colour scheme, our showroom designers can help you put together layers of complementary or contrasting colours for a totally unique, gallery-worthy kitchen.
4) Form and function
Hand-crafted drawer boxes with bespoke inserts, personalised pantry cupboards, ingenious wine storage… The kitchen is a hard-working room but the very best kitchens incorporate all that necessary practical stuff into a beautiful, balanced space: storage and utilities that are the perfect combination of form and function.
At the Chelsea showroom you can check out some of our cleverest ideas for kitchen features that are very useful yet blended seamlessly into a beautiful design. Like the Rudham kitchen’s innovative little circular island – a perfect spot to chop veg or gather together with drinks. Or how about an entire office space, incorporated into the kitchen and concealed by pocket doors?...
5) Showstopping features
Finally – how about a statement artwork? We love making ‘wow’ features in kitchens – real showstoppers that are completely unique to your kitchen. It could be absolutely anything… In the Chelsea showroom, for example, you can check out the ultimate drinks station, with a built-in coffee machine, bar, glasses storage and more, all together in a truly sensational centrepiece cabinet.
Have a chat with one of our designers about creating your dream piece of statement kitchen furniture – we love a challenge!
