Kitchen Trends 2020

As we are nearing the end of the year and getting closer and closer to Christmas, we wanted to share with you the trends we have been seeing towards the end of 2019 and those we are expecting to see increasing in popularity in 2020. Metallics One of the biggest trends that we have recently seen is the use of metallic elements within kitchen designs. More clients than ever are requesting metallic worktops, splashbacks, sinks, faucets and even cabinet doors themselves. We now often create these aspects of a design with brass, copper or stainless-steel. However, if a client would like to experiment with another metal, we can always try to accommodate this too. Some of our most popular kitchen accessories are our hand-aged brass and copper splashbacks. These are created by our very own skilled team here in our workshop in Norfolk. We spend a lot of time and care on each piece, ensuring that we create a beautiful patina, so that each splashback is truly unique. The real beauty of this material is that it can be left untreated so that over time the splashback changes and tarnishes, creating an exquisite finish. If preferred, we can also lacquer the pieces to secure the beautiful patina reached during production. If a client would like a different finish to these real metals, for budgetary or practicality reasons, we can also explore a range of alternatives to achieve their desired look. We can spray our hardwoods in beautiful metallic paints so that to the eye these look just like their authentic counterparts. We have also recently installed a state-of-the-art Formica and veneer press, giving us the option to create any finish a client would like. Be it, metallic, coloured, textured or even to look like stone.

Raw materials Another major trend we have seen is the popularity for more raw or exposed natural materials within a kitchen. For worktops and splashbacks, natural stones and Terrazzo are being used much more. These can be a great way to create a focal point to the room and add more detail to a kitchen with more subtle and understated cabinets. We predict that the popularity of exposed wood cabinetry will increase even further in 2020. Already, more clients are asking for exposed walnut and oak in their doors. We are also seeing a rise in exposed Birch Plywood fronts, which proves the current popularity of Scandi styling. The beauty of our manufacturing facility is that we have our own veneer press here on site. This means that we can work with a broad variety of real wood veneer suppliers allowing us to create any look that a customer may have in mind. Recently, we have been working on a beautiful kitchen made from an eye-catching rough-sawn-look material. We can’t wait to share the finished project with you once ready!

Colour trends Each year, Dulux and Pantone release their colours of the year which give us a great insight into possible coloured kitchen trends in the next few months. This year Dulux have announced that ‘Tranquil Dawn’, a pale greyish-green, is their 2020 Colour of the Year. Contradictory, Pantone’s is Classic Blue, a vibrant royal blue. Although these colours are very different, we love them both and if you keep your eyes peeled you may even see our own take on these colours added to our own colour collection very soon…

In addition to these two Colours of the Year, we expect to see a few other colours increasing in popularity over 2020. These include vibrant oranges, earthy olive-greens, pale powder pinks and deep claret reds. The great news is all our brands offer a colour matching service, so we can paint your fronts in whichever paint colour you have in mind. If you can’t decide on one colour choice, it is also becoming very popular to mix and match your cabinets so that the island and main units, or base and wall units, are in two complementary or even contrasting shades.

Door Designs In terms of the kitchen itself, we are seeing a major increase in popularity for handleless fronts.  We work hard to develop new handle-less door styles that not only look beautiful but are immensely practical too. Our Highgate, Midgard, Ladbroke and J-Groove styles are all incredibly ergonomic to use and can suit any style of kitchen. To prove just how popular handleless styles are becoming, our Stanhoe kitchen has recently been awarded a coveted place on The English Home’s 2020 New Year Honours List.
