Built for the sporting life; an irreverent moment of fun, championing a competitive kitchen.
It's funny how sporting victories, and defeats, with their trophies, medals, and the odd wooden spoon, seem to get celebrated in kitchens, only never to actually move from that random shelf. And why should they. We all know the kitchen is the centre of the emotional universe, witnessing the highs and lows, the great devotions, the epic failures whilst daring greatly; it's not a cold and timid place which knows neither victory nor defeat. And whilst I insolently and incompetently paraphrase President Theodore Roosevelt's speech to the Sorbonne in 1910, we all know there is a real element of truth in it.
We just wanted to have some fun seeing what elements of the sporting life we could incorporate into a kitchen, from a running track floor to tennis court design cabinets, and everything else in between. You don't often come across a skydiver practicing in a kitchen. And whilst we actually jump out of aeroplanes, to be fair we don't really practice in the kitchen...
Just getting to the morning coffee feels like the first 100 meter dash of the day, it's just an interesting idea to mark lanes on the floor for it.
And whilst as a rather eclectic ensemble, the idea is to perhaps challenge what should, or should not, make its way into kitchen design. Irreverence or a shrine to the gods of cooking, there is of course no right or wrong. It's what works for you.
