Autumnal Living
It's that time of year when everything starts to change again. The weather gets colder, days get darker, nature starts to turn and homes need to be cosy and warm to battle this weather.
Trends adapt to these changes and are generally based around making your home comfortable and the perfect haven for the colder months. Fabrics get thicker and more luxurious and colours get richer and more intense as the warmer end of the colour spectrum is utilised. Boot rooms come into their own at this time of the year, and are the perfect place to kick off wet, muddy boots and coats after long country walks.
With the release of Dulux's colour of the year Spiced Honey, Farrow and Ball releasing nine new colours (no greys!) and Little Greene releasing a new selection of greens for their colour palette, it is clear that colour is at the forefront of everyone's minds at the moment. We love to bring the outside in, so seeing the beautiful rich colours of the autumn and winter reflected inside within a kitchen is perfect for this.
Having recently visited London Design Festival and Decorex, this view was completely reinforced. Not a neutral in site, the shows were all about celebrating colour and bringing in warmth and personality into your home. Whilst neutral kitchens will never date and will always have a place within the home, we're absolutely loving colour being back. By surrounding yourself with a warm, inviting colour it brings balance and harmony to your home life, which is essentially at a time of year when you're going to be inside a lot more.
Our rural location actually provides us with so much colour inspiration. The Norfolk beaches are perfect for finding summer colours, with light blues and bright neutrals inspiring our summer palettes and many of our kitchen designs.
However, we're also incredibly lucky that Norfolk provides some of the most incredible scenery in the later months of the year too. With lots of woodland trees shedding leaves and turning into rich yellows and deep oranges, the fields turning into golden colours, and the skies getting darker, everywhere we go we can always find colours and nature that inspires our next kitchen design. Our most recent showroom addition is actually a perfect example of this, with rich golden tones combining so beautifully with the walnut timber we have also used in the design. (Check back to the blog soon to see the big reveal of this one!)
We love to adapt to the changing seasons and love when the summer arrives, especially in Norfolk as it seems just that extra bit more beautiful, but there is something just so special about the colder months. When you arrive home after a long cold day, the kitchen is the perfect place to gather. Warm from the heat of the AGA, with a beautiful hot meal on the table, we know there's nowhere else we'd rather be at this time of the year.
