Autumnal Living
Autumn is a time of year that involves many changes; the weather, the mood, the lighting all completely differ as soon as it hits the later months of the year and this involves a completely different perspective on the home and how you want it to look and feel.
As the days are now shorter and the evenings are getting colder, it often means savouring as much of your time outside as possible. It may be risky to travel long distances as the weather is unpredictable and your day outside may be rained off, but the stubborn summer lover within us will still relish in any warm weather and sunshine for as long as possible.
But when it just gets too chilly and dark in the evenings to be outside and you have to throw in the towel, that's when you realise how important a cosy, comfortable environment is; that you can just come home and relax in. There are many things that you can do to make your home as relaxing as possible, and as your kitchen is the hub of your home, it is vital that this room is as inviting as it can possibly be.
De-Clutter
Whilst this can be an incredibly monotonous task, by having a de-cluttered home or even just kitchen area will make you feel so much more relaxed in your surroundings. We're not saying that you have to strip everything back to the bare minimum and having no items on show, but by removing those unnecessary items that just clog up your rooms will give you a much calmer environment to unwind in. Installing a Boot Room can give you a beautiful storage solution that is not only stunning to look at, but also incredibly practical. But even just installing bespoke hanging solutions such as the shelf and coat rack below, means that you can remove those work-space cluttering items, but still have items to hand easily for when you need to grab and go in the morning.
Colour Palettes
One way to make your home and especially your kitchen the perfect environment to enjoy the cooler months, is to make it incredibly warm and inviting. An easy way to do this is to use beautifully rich, earthy colours that fill you with a sense of warmth as soon as you enter the room. If you're looking for relaxing colour choices that instantly makes you feel at home, then beautiful greens or warm greys and blush pinks will make the room feel luxuriously cosy. By painting your walls and your cabinets in the same colour it will completely engulf you as you enter the room, instantly enabling you to leave your stressful day behind. Blues add a beautiful serenity to a room, evoking a sense of calm after a long stressful day at work.
Lighting
Another way to instantly make your room feel instantly cosy is with the right lighting. Spotlights are a brilliant way to brighten a room and have specific lighting in certain areas of a room, such as a prep area or an island. But an incredible way to make a room cosy and inviting is with elegant pendant lighting, that add a beautiful subtle light to a room, and creates an incredible feature that the eye is instantly drawn to. By keeping bright lighting to just the areas necessary and having slightly dimmer lighting elsewhere in the room ensures that there is never an over-clinical feeling and the room is still comfortable despite being busy and full of people.
Textures
By adding textures to a room you will create an environment that is perfectly cosy and inviting. Whilst a slab door that is flat in finish is incredible and looks so sleek and modern, by having grain visible and exposed timbers in your kitchen creates a new element that the eye focuses on. The natural finish of the cabinets creates a more earthy feel within the kitchen that is very comforting for the senses, instantly relaxing you as you enter the room. Oak is an incredible material to make a room feel open and spacious, whilst Walnut leaves the most sophisticated impression on a room. Combine with neutral or rich colours that warm the room to make a beautiful, calm space.
